"Living What We Believe" - I Believe~

A couple of weeks ago I was reading a lesson in our new Relief Society study manual for the Year. This year we are studying "Teachings Of Presidents Of the Church - George Albert Smith".

I was so impressed by the first Chapter of this book entitled "Living What We Believe".From the Life of George Albert Smith. These ideals were so wonderful; I decided to share them on this post.
"When I was 34 years old, George Albert Smith made a list of resolutions that he called his "personal creed" - 11 ideals that he committed to live by.

“I would be a friend to the friendless and find joy in ministering to the needs of the poor.
“I would visit the sick and afflicted and inspire in them a desire for faith to be healed.
“I would teach the truth to the understanding and blessing of all mankind.
“I would seek out the erring one and try to win him back to a righteous and a happy life.
“I would not seek to force people to live up to my ideals but rather love them into doing the thing that is right.
“I would live with the masses and help to solve their problems that their earth life may be happy.
“I would avoid the publicity of high positions and discourage the flattery of thoughtless friends.
“I would not knowingly wound the feelings of any, not even one who may have wronged me, but would seek to do him good and make him my friend.
“I would overcome the tendency to selfishness and jealousy and rejoice in the successes of all the children of my Heavenly Father.
“I would not be an enemy to any living soul.
“Knowing that the Redeemer of mankind has offered to the world the only plan that will fully develop us and make us really happy here and hereafter, I feel it not only a duty but also a blessed privilege to disseminate this truth.”
I have such a testimony of the truthfulness of these ideals. I know they could help us all to live better lives.

In staying true to my desire to let others know what I believe as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints here is Article of Faith number 10.

10. We believe in the literal agathering of Israel and in the restoration of the bTen Tribes; that cZion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will dreign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be erenewed and receive its fparadisiacal gglory.
Most Christian Churches of our day also believe in many of these teachings.

I really loved this lesson, too. His creed was thorough, thoughtful, and inspirational.

Can you believe he was so insightful at 34? I was still a jerk at 34.

I love the creed also. I'm going to tweet about each of the points to help me remember. What a kind and lovng man he was.(I had to read about his life. I'm into modern-day prophets, as you know!) He went about doing so much good. He's changed my life because I think about his statements on loving others and I want to try to be like him. :}

Great post. I loved reading of his creed also and thought what a better world this would be if we lived them. I've set a goal to try and follow these this years as we study and learn of him. Nola

I love his creed especially these two ideals

“I would not knowingly wound the feelings of any, not even one who may have wronged me, but would seek to do him good and make him my friend.
“I would overcome the tendency to selfishness and jealousy and rejoice in the successes of all the children of my Heavenly Father."

Because they are the ones that trip me up sometimes when I am unawares :) I am currently serving in YW so I don't get to hear the RS lessons. I miss it!

your comments on my post brightened my day...Thanks!
